I wanted to ask you a question today, something that you can go away and think about. Why do you care about self-improvement?
Self-improvement, well-being, finding happy and whatever else you might want to call it, for me, began due to one very specific event in my life. Maybe you don’t yet know this about me but some 5+ years ago I was in a very troublesome time in my life. Through the pressures that I put on myself to achieve “success” I forgot about what was actually important in life and important to my values, and I developed an intense combination of anxiety and depressive bouts.
My journey over these some 5+ years has been long, difficult, challenging, upsetting, enlightening, joyous, and every other possible emotion. Even despite all of the lows, I wouldn’t have it any other way because it has made me into the person I am today and that is someone who is proud to have faced challenges and came out stronger on the other end.
Recently I did an interview with the guys at Sanctus, who are trying to change the perception of mental health. Whilst they take a different approach to me on well-being, I absolutely wholeheartedly support what they do and that’s why we created a video together where I share some of my experiences of my mental health challenges.
Which brings me back to my main point of this. I care about self-improvement because I want to have a mind that is well, calm, and that can face the challenges life will inevitably throw my way. Because I know that for me if I don’t take care of my mind like I do my body, friends, family, or work then I won’t have the stability I need to be the best version of myself.
